HOW IT BEGAN |

| KID'S PLACE, also known as ARH - Association for the
Restoration of Mankind - was founded in 1991 by Mrs. Abigail Mesquita.
She came to Recife after serving the Federal Government in Brasilia for
thirty years, to begin benevolent work with the street children of
Recife, Northeast Brazil. Right at the beginning 100 children
participated of the project that had as its aim to educate, feed, dress
and take the children out of areas of risk to give them a better future.
But because of the President and founder's ill health and financial
difficulties the amount of children diminished quite a bit. She was the
person who supported the Association not receiving any governmental or
any other institution's help. When Mrs. Abigal Mesquita died, the Association had 30 children. The building where the Association was at was in ruins and in very precarious conditions. It looked like there was no more hope to continue the dream, but to the surprise of everyone, people who were touched by this ordeal began to send donations from the most unexpected places. Volunteers showed up to help with the work, continuing in this way the work of our sister Abigail Mesquita. |
